Great Pyrenees These dogs have long been used as guardians of the flock in the Pyrenees mountain range in Europe between France and Spain. Great Pyrenees are working dogs referred to as Livestock Guarding Dogs. They are guard dogs by instinct, not training. Most breeds take commands from people well, while Great Pyrenees have been bred to work on their own. By nature the Great Pyrenees is confident, gently and loving. They tend to be territorial and protective of their family- human or animal. In general they have a quiet composure, both patient and tolerant. The Great Pyrenees is strong willed, reserved, independent, attentive, fearless, and loyal. Clista Our first experience with Livestock Guardian Dogs and the Great Pyrenees. She came to us from a pastured poultry farm in Missouri in March of 2007. She has been a wonderful introduction to the breed. She has renewed my love for dogs, having been many years since I had one to call my own. Clista patrols the field that pastures our laying hens and turkeys along with the cows and calves Clifford Our guardian in training. He was born January 8, 2009. Clifford patrols the field that pastures our broilers (meat birds) and goats. He is intact and we hope to have puppies in 2011. Winnie She was born September 22, 2009. We don't have her assigned to a specific duty at this time. Winnie was purchased for the purpose of giving us pups and to share with others our love of this breed. As she develops we will find where she fits into the farm but for now she is content to sleep in the house at night and romp in the field with the big dogs by day.
